Humans makes masks and masks gives to them the opportunity to be something
else.
I build masks and I wear masks to play my music. If I wear a mask and I make noise
I become a ”HERO”.
The idea of the workshop is to build masks with different materials, colors and
elements to create an event where the mask becomes alive.
At the same time that we’ll build masks we’ll think about noise sound, and we’ll make
a search of which object makes a specific noise that gives the colour of our
character’s style.
The participants will find the good form, colour style, name of the mask and we will
create the hero and the universe from where it comes.
Lo-fi masks because around us is full of lo-fi materials and we’ll use only things found
on the street, at home… lost and found objects.
The workshop will start with a historical introduction about masks and masks vs
music. I will provide some materials and examples but also I will ask on the student
to bring special papers, colors, micro objects belonging to the participants.
At the end of the workshop we’ll introduce the masks and we’ll perform the Heros.
I would like to do this with a jam session of noise. During the workshop we’ll find
objects to make special noises and we’ll perform that live. We’ll try to discover the
relationship between our imaginary character and the abstract sounds that follow it.
This session will be recorded and we will publish a cassette of the concert.
The workshop will be open to all ages. The participants will leave with the mask and
a copy of the cassette.
